Belize City, Belize - Thursday, November 30th
The night before I got my things together for my excision. Swim suit, towel, sunglasses, sign and sail pass, photo id, sun block, lippy, extra shirt, shorts, and most importantly... underwater camera. I was going snorkeling in the morning and wanted to have everything ready to go.I also put together a nice little package for Jerome as he was heading to port by himself while I was out snorkeling. I had a map for him, all the drawing slips filled out, the locations as to where the drawings were being held, where he should go to get the free items.... everything. I was going to meet him in Belize when my excursion was over within a half hour.
We woke up Thursday morning to the sound of the travel alarm clock. I turned it off, put my suit on and then my shorts and tee shirt over it. Jerome grabbed some clothes and the digital camera and we headed off to the Lido Deck for breakfast.Once we had our fill we went to where Jerome had to go to get his tender sticker. Yep, we were anchored out again due to the reef. Well it ended up that they had a tender boat leaving very soon that there was room for Jerome and a few more people who were standing around to go on. What? Okay I guess Jerome is going to shore now... I thought he would leave after me. All the sudden he was saying "I'll see you later honey" and I was pulling him back and giving him a kiss goodbye.
He was gone. Poof.
Okay... well now I've got to get myself over to the theater where I will be meeting up with the other snorkelers. Good thing they have maps of the boat at every elevator! I made my way there and was told to sit on the right hand side. Why? Well there were a bunch of excisions leaving that morning and there was an area for each excision.I sat and waited... by myself. It seemed like everyone else was talking to someone that they were with.... and there I was... sitting and waiting. It did have its benefit though... once we were told we could go down to Deck Zero I didn't have to wait on anyone else and could just go. I was first in line, first on the tender boat, first to pick a spot, first to get my gear.
We took a 20-30 minute speed boat motor to an island with all of three palm trees on it and a dock. We docked and were told that if we wanted to snorkel off the beach we could, or we could stay on the boat and we would be taken to the other side of the reef where we will need to jump off the boat and then snorkel. I chose the later of the two.
I was the only "first timer" on the boat after we left the island. No biggie.
Well I had been snorkeling once before... when I was 7 or so with my family in the Florida Keys... but I wasn't told at 7 about the taking in sea water and I was back on the boat with the captain within two minuets of getting into the water.
Not this time... our guide told us a few hints about working the snorkel and I listened intently at his every word since I was not only snorkeling for myself... but also for Jerome since I had the underwater camera. I jumped into the water off the boat and adjusted my gear once I came to the surface.
The guy that was sitting next to me on the boat noticed me in the water. He swam over and said, "Hey Kim are you here by yourself? I'm here with my Dad and if you want you can stick with us." At first I was surprised that he knew my name... but then I remembered... I had my Lands End monogrammed bag with me... DUH! I said sure and continued to adjust my gear.
I put my mask on, tube in mouth.... then face in water... COUGH COUGH GAG... oh oh.
This is not going to be fun. Ughhh… I snorted the biggest gulp of sea water I think is possible. Ick. This is not going to be any fun. I hate this. No… wait… positive attitude. I put my mask back on and put the tube back in my mouth. I practiced breathing above the water for awhile and once I figured that out I put my face back in the water. Oh my goodness there are fish right below me. I put my face back in again. Oh take a picture of them… click. Oh look there’s so many… click… oh wait… I’m SNORKELING!!!!!
It was so fun. There I was chasing after fish to get their photo… getting closer to the coral. I saw blue fish, yellow fish, green fish (no Dr. Sues here!). The blue ones had bright white spots; yellow had white stripes, black fish, angel fish, a conch shell, coral, and a jelly fish!
I looked up to see if I could find the guy and his dad… but they were no where around. At that point I figured I should go over by the guide… at least then I wouldn’t be alone and I guess he would show us the best parts of the reef.
I stayed close to the guide and then started to just float and look. Trying to see anything. There was so much to look at. I ended up going off by myself once… It was so calm and peaceful. And then I looked up and noticed I was pretty far away from everyone and swam back right by the guide again to be sure to follow him from now on.
I haven’t had a chance yet to develop the underwater camera, but when I do I will be sure to post the photos, so stay tuned.
We had been out for awhile when all the sudden the guide whistled and told everyone to head back to the boat that it was time to go back to the island. Back to the boat I went. Gosh that was so exciting.
We motored over to the island which wasn’t that far away but we had to go to the other side of it to get to the only dock. We got off and I instantly had to pee. (Sorry… more information than you wanted to know… but it’s not like I would go in the water… especially since we were all pretty close to each other… ewwww no warm spots!) So I headed to the one and only port-a-potty. I had to.
Once out of there I wondered how to go about snorkeling off shore. How far did you have to swim out before you would see anything of interest? Hummm…. Then I saw the guy and his dad. He stated that they were going to go snorkel and I could tag along again if I wanted. GREAT!
Little did I know that when you snorkel off shore you don’t need your fins… just your mask and tube. We were walking into the water and then all the sudden down he went…. The guy just sat down and put his face in the water. WHAT? So I did the same. What do you know…. In two feet of water there were fish. Hangin out. Waiting for me to look at them and take their picture.
We were at the island for a bout an hour and then it was time to head back to the ship. We all piled onto the boat and chatted a bit before the engine took off with a roar. In no time we back at the ship with our sail and sign cards in hand.
I ran back to the room… rinsed off the sea water in a quickie shower and was going to jump on the next tender boat to shore. I noticed a water bottle in the room with a receipt that had Jerome’s name on it. I thought he had come back and noticed the time was a half hour ago…. He must have gone back to shore to meet me but wanted me to know he was here and that I should a.) drink some water after I’ve been out in the sun all morning b.) bring the bottle with me for him and c.) hurry up.
It was about a twenty minuet speed boat ride to Belize City. As the tender boat was pulling up to the dock I thought I saw Jerome. That can’t be him; we are going to meet in store #3 on the map. It is him. I wish I had a camera to take his picture. He was just hanging out on the outside of the store leaning on the wall. I was so happy to see him…. This was the first time of the entire cruise that we had been out of sight of each other for more that twenty minuets. I missed him. (I know… sick!)Anyways… I met up with him and asked how the city was. He didn’t seem too impressed. I asked him if he wanted some water, he said YEAH! Apparently Jerome hadn’t gone back to the ship. Nor did he purchase the water that he was drinking now. What the heck? Well that just put a damper on things. Was someone using our room number to charge stuff? We will have to take care of it once we get back on the boat. For now, show me the hot spots of Belize.
Jerome seemed so excited to show me around… yet it seems like he’s been here before… oh yeah… he’s been here allllllllllllll morning. Poor baby.
We bought a statue and looked at some tee shirts. Went and got our free charm bracelet from Diamond International. We walked around. I remembered that someone had told me to drink a Belikin Beer while in Belize. I though it was Josh… but he denies it. Then I figured it was Schwa but he denies it too…. Ends up it was my sister Tammy who was just in Belize not to long ago! Anyways… Jerome and I went to have a beer. But first… we stopped at a little shop. They had Belikin Beer t-shirts… Well I’ve got to have one of those especially if I’m going to try it. Ends up the “natives” get the beer cheaper…. Imagine that. So the t-shirt guy took $5 from us and went and got us a deal on our beers. We sat down and drank the beers out side of the t-shirt shop and listened to the music from the bar where the local bought the beers from. All of the sudden the sun started to burn…. And I mean burn ME!
At first I thought maybe it was just the beer making me warm inside… not so much the case! We started to head for the tender boat. We ran into our table mates from the ship and chatted with them for a bit and told them we would see them at dinner. I was overheating. We got on the tender boat and headed back to the ship. Once we got back to the ship we went to the room to drop off our treasures. We decided to get some late lunch and then we headed out to the deck to watch us leave Belize.

We took up a couple of deck chairs and hung out for a bit. I became extremely tired and managed to fall asleep for a bit. I didn’t notice I was asleep or that Jerome had gotten up until something flew over head a blocked the sun from me. It was a pelican… and there Jerome was trying to take a picture of it while I was waking up.
We stayed outside and watched the sun set and I did a photo shoot
of Jerome….
Then we went back to the room and got dressed for dinner. After dinner we went to the theater for a comedian that was pretty darn funny. We came back to a Pig

Isla Roatan, Honduras - Wednesday, November 29, 2006
Oh my goodness... there is so much to say about Roatan. We really liked it. I think our tour guide made us really love it though. You know how some people just make you like them... she was it! Let me start from the beginning.
We woke up early Wednesday morning. We knew we needed to go to the Lido deck to get some breakfast before we headed to the Belize/Costa Maya Shopping Talk and then off to Roatan for our tour mid-morning.
When we arrived at Roatan we docked on a pier. We still needed to make our way to Deck Zero to head off the ship. We were greeted when we stepped off the ship by dancers and drummers in costumes. They were pretty entertaining. We searched for our tour but there was no one with our sign. We were going on a semi-submarine. I thought this would be fun for Jerome since he doesn't swim and wouldn't be going snorkeling. We found someone who told us to hang out by her that she was with the same company but that the semi-sub tour people weren't out to the pier yet. Works for us since we had a pretty good view of the dancers.

Our tour guide finally arrived with her gold tooth self. We followed her like little ducks to the van that was taking us around the island to the semi-sub. We went all threw the West End of Roatan. Apparently there is only one road on that part of the island... so there isn't many bank robberies because the police can "surround" the robber very easily. If they were caught, they get no cable tv, no bed, one toilet and packed in like sardines with many other felons. Wow.
We went on a very curvy road, hills the whole nine. It had rained recently so everything was lush and green in the jungle. We finally got to where the boat was going to be docked. It was out on an earlier tour. The tour guide jumped out of the van to talk to the other "natives" while we stayed in the air conditioned van. Kids came out of no where with beads, bracelets, necklaces, shells.
The boat arrived and we watched the previous tour get off the boat. We walked down the boardwalk to the boat and were the first to board.... we got the very front of the bottom of the boat. Here's a few pics from the semi-submarine.
One lady thought it was a bit too choppy for her and headed up to the deck. I have to agree that if we would have came out of the water 10 more times I would have been feeding the fish. We got off the boat and got back onto the van/bus. Since we were the first to get on the boat we were the last to get on the bus... which for us sucked. I'll tell you why... mind you there is only a two way road on that end of the island.... the cars/trucks/buses are smaller...and they pack more people in. So... even for "small" people it was hard for them to "walk" down the isle of the van to the back seats.... We are not "small"... now tell me you skinny people why did you make me crawl over you and the seats making my flab touch you??????? :)
Sorry for the tangent... so we drove again to the next spot... oh another spot? I thought we were just going on the boat tour and heading back to the ship???? Guess we get more for our money! We stopped at this little place on the water-duh it's all on the water! Anyways we stopped to get a free drink... and watch the locals sing and dance again. There were some cute little shops there too where we picked up a few great wood items.

We got to the point where we were waiting for the others to board the bus. We decided to go on the shore and see if we could find any shells and dip our toes in the water. Yup... Jerome actually put his feet in the water!
We saw our tour guide walking from the restaurant where we got the "free drink". Here the bus we thought we were getting on that no one was on was not our bus. WE ALMOST GOT LEFT! Here our real bus was full and we got stuck in those dang back seats again. There was one last stop... yep one more. We stopped at a little shop where that make cameos - you know the broach or necklace of the lady carved in white. They gave us a demonstration of how they make them and we got back on the bus to head back to the ship.
We got back on the ship and I headed to the pool again. Jerome headed off the take pictures of the ship leaving and the sunset.

We were so tired after our adventures of the day that we fell asleep and didn't wake up for dinner! We woke up at midnight and asked each other if we were going to midnight show... nope... and kept sleeping till the morning.

Grand Cayman - Tuesday, November 28, 2006
Around 7 am we made our way to Grand Cayman. Due to the reefs around Grand Cayman we were not able to dock... instead we anchored out and had to take a "tender boat" to shore.Jerome and I woke up and got dressed. We didn't have any plans for the day really... just to go to shore to get our free Sapphire at some point. We took our time getting up and eating breakfast. We brought our "shore bag" with us to breakfast so we could head straight to the tender boat afterwards.
When we were finished with breakfast we had to go and get a sticker for the tender boat ride. Not really sure why since no one was checking if we had a sticker when we actually got to the tender boat....but it was protocol so we did it. Number 19. How odd, that's the 2nd time we've been number 19 for something regarding this cruise. We headed down to Deck Zero. Sounds kinda scary doesn't it! Basically down to the bottom of the boat where we can board the "little" boat to go to shore.

I say "little" since the tender boat was a good sized boat sitting about 60 people. When the guy said we were going to have to take a small boat here I was thinking a "dingy".... boy was I wrong.
We got to shore and noticed the Grand Cayman sign... being the tourist that we are of course we took our pictures there.

We walked around Grand Cayman... just a lot of shops for people with lots of money or those who want to open their off shore account. Needless to say... not us. We walked around and got our free Sapphire... they actually ended up giving us three... now are they real... well I'll take it into a jewelers and see if it's even worth making them into anything.
We walked around and saw a tattoo parlor. Oh the thought was there. We even walked in to see what their prices were looking like... but nope... no tats on this trip. We kept walking around but got kinda tired. We decided to take a seat at a picnic table that was outside of a KFC... yup... nothing on the island but banks and a KFC! We drank some water, took a look at the map to see if we were missing any thing and decided to go to one more store.
We went to the place where we were suggested to go by Andrew our Cruise shopper for black coral. We weren't impressed. Then we went to more stores. We actually found a great shop for some touristy stuff. We saw the Hard Rock Cafe and the Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville restaurants. Jerome even found a truck that had Rims on it... He was pretty excited to see that.

We were pretty much done and unfortunately not impressed. We hoped this would be the "worst" port since it wasn't that bad... just not for us. We headed back to the tender boat dock to go back to the ship.
On our way we saw this ship coming into Grand Cayman... I think we left just in time!

When we got back on the ship I took a few pictures that can give you an idea of boarding the tender boat and the ship.

There was also a pretty funny sign which when I took the picture I got yelled at by the sail and sign card taker person saying I was in a secure area and that I shouldn't be taking pictures... what the heck?!?!?!?! Oh well.... again... got what I wanted and went about my business!

Once we stopped at the room we decided to get some late lunch and then I was going to head to the pool. Jerome took the camera and took some pics of us leaving Grand Cayman.
It was a pretty quiet night. We went to a jewelry sale that the ship was having and then to a comedian and headed to bed.

Fun Day at Sea - Monday, November 27, 2006
We got up on Monday and headed to the Lido deck for breakfast. We took our own tour of the boat after breakfast since we didn't really know where things were yet.
Around 12:30 we decide to go to the art auction that was going on in the Eagle's Lounge... I guess we were enticed by the free champagne and raffles and a free piece of artwork just for attending. We walked around and glanced at the artwork. I was really only interested in one but we went around taking some photos. One of the workers said it was fine to take pictures but to please turn the flash off... okay fine.

We took a seat and waited for the champagne to flow. I noticed on stage there were some Picasso's... I decided to go and take a photo or two... when else would I see one? There were some Salvador Dali's too... Gosh I remember studying these in my art history classes...how odd. Then there were a few Rembrandt pieces aboard the ship. The guy was talking about the pieces and how one piece was worth something like a half a million for a 4x4 piece of paper. Holy cow... needless to say I went to take a picture of it. Then it happened. I got yelled at. NO PICTURES. Too late... I already had what I wanted... here you go... print this on yellowish paper and you've got a half a million dollars in your hands :)

We stayed for the auction... it was fun to me... but I think Jerome was pretty board. After the auction there was a Gem Stone chat in the room next door where you would get a free carat Sapphire just for attending. Yeah... sure... you got a slip of paper to go into a store to pick up a sapphire. Okay... we'll do it when we get to Grand Cayman what else would we do.
After the auction and gem chat we went to our room and dropped off all the paperwork we had acquired at the talks. We ran into the casino where Jerome found a quarter on the floor near a slot. He stuck the quarter in the machine and made $30! Go JT!! GO GO GO!!!! Well that was the most he or I made there... pretty much it just took our money.

The evening consisted of the first formal night or captain's dinner. We got dressed for dinner... Jerome got a bit moody regarding his clothes... he didn't pack a suit - not my fault, I asked if he was going to pack it. (Next time we go he will be sure to pack it along for formal nite!) Anyways... we went for appetizers and drinks on the captain... we had screwdrivers, wine, some sort of brandy drink and few others to choose from and as many as we wanted... nice. They also served us meatballs, some sort of ravioli and other appetizers. Then we headed to dinner.
We looked for our new table. There is was... yep it had a window. But the matradee failed to mention that it also was on a wall in the corner. Which meant no view of anything except for the smokers on the deck. Did I mention it had a window... did I think that it would be dark at 8 pm for dinner? DUH!!!
We order our two lobsters a piece and Jerome also ordered Prime Rib for himself and chatted with the other couple from the dinner the previous day. We discussed that we got the short end of the stick regarding the table location. There were two other couples at the table... young but pretty funny.
Our service sucked to say the least. It was hot in the lower deck since the air didn't reach there for some reason. Not to mention one of the other ladies ordered a soda and when the waiter came back to see if we needed anything else she requested another coke. He pretty much yelled at her and told her that she needed to finish the one that she had before he would give her another. WHAT???? Upstairs we had our glasses always at least 3/4 full! We were not happy.
After dessert we decided we would request to go back upstairs... we chatted with the matradee and he said that the table that we previously had isn't available but that there was another opening near there. We will take it.
After we figured that out we went to the disco. It was pretty fun getting on the dance floor. There was this one couple that was especially funny to watch since they seemed like a very odd couple... I won't go into it but just picture a very aggressive young woman dancing with a very skinny old man. Okay... no more... that's it.
When we returned back to our room we had our next towel creature... Gangster Bunny.

MSP to Miami, Florida Sunday, November 26
We woke early on Sunday morning after a night of restless sleep. The night before we put most of the luggage in the car so we would be ready to go bright and early.
We jumped in the car and drove to the light rail station. We dropped off the car in the secure lot of my job where it would be checked on by the security guards. We pulled all the luggage out of the car and drug them to the light rail station. We purchased our tickets and waited. And waited... in the cold. And waited. Finally the light rail arrived and we jumped on. Of course though we were flying out of the smaller terminal and the light rail doesn't stop there as it is under construction. So we rode it to the main terminal and took a shuttle back to the small terminal.
We went into the airport to get our boarding passes. They asked if we cared what seat we had for our flight. We were able to get two seats in the isle next to each other. Too bad we had three people in each of our rows. Ughhh...
When the flight attendants came threw they let us know that there were seats up front where we could be more comfortable and still be across from each other. We took them in the blink of the eye. Ends up the other people in our rows were passed out asleep on the window. What luck!

The flight was pretty good and we even got a breakfast sandwich on the plane. I didn't expect that by any means. Not to shabby.
When we arrived to Miami, Hobbit Travel was there to meet us and direct us around. We gathered our luggage off of the luggage carousel and walked outside to our shuttle bus. We jumped on the bus and we drove to the boat... ship... vessel.

There were so many ships and so many buses everywhere down there. We got into line like everyone else. We were in line to get thru customs, our first photo taken, and to receive our sail and sign pass... which... for those of you who haven't been on a cruise with Carnival is your right of life on the ship. You need it to get into your room, to order a soda, to purchase anything at the gift ships, to get off the boat, to get on the boat... EVERYTHING.
Once we got into the boat we went straight to the bar and purchased our fountain card. It's a card that we could use to get sodas throughout the entire trip that someone had gave us a tip on to purchase. Once that was done we went to our room to see how tiny it was. It wasn't that bad. It would work.
We changed into our carry on clothes and headed up to get some lunch. I was so hungry but nothing looked good. I didn't want a salad after what Lisa told me from her experience. I couldn't find the 24/7 burger bar. I didn't want what was there. So I got a banana. Jerome on the other hand had no problems finding some lunch.
As soon as we sat down around 4 pm there was a message playing over the loud speaker telling us that there was a mandatory drill that all passengers needed to participate in. Basically we had to go find our room again, find the life vests that were in our room in a closet, then not us an elevator to get back up to the deck that had the lifeboats on and stand there. Just in case there were any problems we would know exactly what we had to do. So we did just that.

We checked back at our room to see if our bags had arrived yet... but they hadn't. We put the life jackets away and went to discover the ship.
We were set up to eat at the late dinner. We got there right on time and sat down at our table where there was already another couple sitting there. They were pretty nice and from North Carolina I think. We chatted about cruising and such. There were still room for two more couples to sit at the table but no one arrived.
The matradee came over and asked us if we wanted to switch tables to one down stairs that was next to a window. We thought nothing of it and agreed since it had a window. How great that would be, right?!??! We wrapped up the night with our waitstaff of EE, Rolando and Victoria. EE was very friendly... loved her!
After dinner we went back to our room and found our luggage. There was a comedian that night that we went to named Mike Macy. He was pretty good. When we returned to our room we had our first turn down service and a new friend in our bed :)

Honeymoon
Times a tickin!
Well we did it! We are going on a Honeymoon Cruise. We'll be leaving Miami November 26 for our 7 day Carnival cruise to Grand Cayman, Roatan, Belize and Costa Maya. We'll return December 3rd and I'm taking the 4th off to recover.
If anyone has any advice they would like to share... what to do, where to go, what to bring, things to try while we are in the Caribbean please let me know. This will be our first cruise, so we really have no idea as to what to expect! If anyone wants to pick up or drop off two people at the airport or check in on Lily by all means contact me too!
Thanks to those who were solicited for advice on which cruise to pick... it's greatly appreciated... but who cares where it is as long as it's in the Caribbean!
