Where has all the color gone?

So I was having a conversation with Melba the other night... we were talking about how she is going to make her daughter a costume for Halloween.  I asked how she was going to make a certain part of it and she said with fabric.  I was thinking it needed to be poofy or something... and BAM it came to me... colored cotton balls!

Melba had no idea what I was talking about.  Do you remember colored cotton balls?  Colored Kleenex or tissue?  What about colored toilet paper?

Where the heck has the color gone?  It's all only white now!!! Seriously... think about it.  Apparently the dye that was used to color the above items was sensitive to some users and thus it's no longer being used.  Crazy huh!

Cafe... or Coffee

I actually took a few years of Spanish - two in High School and two in college. My first course in college actually was the equivalent of the two years in High School, so I breezed through it. Now being out of school I've started to loose what little I did know. I want it back.

Have you ever wanted to learn a new language? Any language? Ever want to learn it but not go to class? Yep... me too. And I want my Spanish back...

Well a coworker of mine stumbled upon a site called Live Mocha where you can do just that. I'm currently testing my Spanish knowledge there... we'll see how it goes... why not try it out?

Thank God They Didn't Have... you fill in the blank

Thank god they didn't have Facebook, MySpace, Camera Phones or Blogs back when I was in high school or college. Well, they may have been invented but not everyone had them like "nowadays".

Whew, I dodged a bullet there... See what happened to some high school students when their photos were found on facebook here in Minnesota.

I'm not going to say that I would have gotten into trouble... okay yes I would have...jeeze... we were more worried about who was playing tonsil tag with who what our T-shirt said or passing notes in class in high school.

I recall one photo that came through for an ad for in our Senior yearbook. It was of a few of the "popular" girls in our class... with beer bottles and wine coolers. Needless to say, Mrs. S caught it and told them that they best find a new picture of themselves to use because that one wasn't going in her yearbook. They found another... and no, I was not in the picture!

What are you glad they didn't have when you were in High School or College?

Kim's Recipe Corner

So I decided that I wanted a place where I could look up all kinds of recipes that I myself had made or enjoyed. Now just how was I going to have a place to do that since no one knows exactly what recipes I like or have made in the past and have enjoyed all in one place? Well... I guess that means I have to make it myself....

I welcome to you another blog by me... Kim's Recipe Corner. Bookmark it and come back to see what I'm making every now and then. I'll try and post photos of the final product of the recipe... and maybe even some pictures of the actual steps.

Enjoy!

The Monty Crew

Here goes, my first blog roll...

Name of site: The Monty Crew

Why I visit: Trisha, the mom of the site, is my best friend from grade school – yes grade school. We’ve been thru thick and thin together… okay maybe I was never thin but you get my drift! She was the Matron of Honor at my wedding and I’m the God Mother of her last little peanut Delaney. It keeps me updated on her and her family and reminds me of life “outside of the city”. She tells about her family – her hubby and four kids.

Why you should visit: Well I assume sooner or later there will be some horrible picture of us posted there… don’t get any ideas Susha!

A quick Sconnie Trip

Friday night we set the alarm clock to wake us up around 4:45 am. Yes, that's right on a SATURDAY! Jerome woke up some time around 4 am and started his shower. Once he was ready he woke up the bear, I mean me, and tossed me in the shower. We were headed to Sconnie for the day/night mainly to pick up our wedding photo album.

We left around 5 am and saw the sun starting to rise - that's the first time in a long time for me. And it was such a red sky that got me thinking of Dad's old sailor saying... red sky at night sailors delight, red sky in morn sailors be warned.

We stopped for breakfast at McDonald's after I woke up from my sleep and also to fill up the tank. We were back on our way and made it to my parents house around 9 am.

Once we were there I immediately went into the photos. Ughhhhh! There was no picture of us with Anna, there was the black and white photo of Jerome that turned out way grainy, there was one of me and my family that when blown up didn't fit that framing of the page thus white strips around the photo - ummm no... fake the wall and carpet or crop it different! Not to mention all of the ones that were out of focus! And then our large wall photo had totally different coloring from the same photo that was in our book. What the heck?

I will say it again, never do business with Together Photography. Their customer service sucks. Their contract is worded funny, and they chose to pick out our photos - even the blurry ones! Ugh.

So, I took the book and Jerome and I headed down to their shop. Of course, no one was there because it's a Saturday and they are out taking awful pictures of someones wedding. So I called my mom to have her look up the phone number for their New London location, perhaps someone would be there. Nope, that number isn't listed. Grrrr. So I called the owner at her home - but she didn't answer either. I left a message at their location in town saying I wasn't please with my photos and that I am only in town today and tomorrow, that someone should contact me asap.

With that said and done we left and went to The Monty Crew's house for lunch. We had planned to BBQ for lunch, but before that Jerome and Andy were going to build some shelving units for Delaney and Maddee's room while Trisha and I were going to head off to Target for some baby food that was 2 cents a jar.

On our way there though, my phone rang. It was Jerome's daughter JST who is due in September with Jerome's first grand baby. She was having some tightening and she thought contractions. Oh boy. Ends up it was nothing out of the ordinary and the baby is still inside for the time being!

Trisha, Baby M and Baby D and I left for Target. Funny thing happened... we ran into my sister P, brother-in-law J and their kids MJM and GWM. Too funny. They were off to buy glue sticks for MJM's first school year in kindergarten. We split ways and headed to the baby section.

I asked Trisha what Delaney needed, since you know, she's already got three kids! Apparently crib sheets are in order. Can do. Next. ;)

We headed to baby food land and stocked the cart. We headed for the check out and the cashier flicked her light on and called a manager over. Apparently Target's coupon won't work at her Target... how annoying. We even spoke with a manager who said that "corporate" sent out a statement that said to limit people to two coupons... COME ON! Needless to say, I'll be trying at my Target here in the cities.

When we got back the guys were wrapping up the shelving unit and we started the food. It was delish! My compliments to the chefs :) We hung out for a bit longer as I got my baby fix knowing the next time I see Baby D he won't like me, but then again there will be a new Baby D that will "hafta" like me!

We headed home and ate dinner with the family. Mashed potatoes, caramel carrots, beef roast... YUM! Then it was time for cards. PJM, mom and I played 500 solitaire. Mom ended up in first place, I got 2nd and PJM... well she lost. And then PJM and I played 100 solitaire and I won. Yippy!

We woke up the next morning and took showers. We came downstairs and said that the clock in the bedroom doesn't keep time... since it was 11am and the clock said 9am! Jeeze! We had breakfast and then hopped in the car for home. We planned to take the long way home so that we could stop at our favorite cheese factory - too bad they aren't open on SUNDAYS :( Grrrr.

So we kept heading the long way instead of turning around. We went through Green Bay when Jerome said something about taking a picture of Lambeau field. Why taking a moving picture, instead we went and actually went inside. It was first trip inside the stadium... you could totally feel the love. We hopped back in the car and were on our way when someone stated that he should have found the bathroom before leaving. So we made a pit stop for an ice cream cone and potty break at the McDonald's down the street from the stadium - it was even decked out in Packer attire!

We drove home and ended up stopping at our other cheese factory stop for some curds and a brick of cheese - and gas and switching of drivers. Once we were in the cities we stopped for dinner. We unpacked the car after and then Jerome left to see how JST was doing. All is good as far as we know now.

No more phone

We have disconnected our home phone. Gosh that seems so odd... thinking back to when I was growing up spending hours on the phone - I think I would have killed my parents if they did such a thing!

So, don't be alarmed if you call our home phone and you get the operator saying we've changed our number to an unlisted number! Just call our cells!

Classmates.com

Have you signed up for a profile on Classmates.com? Well I have... actually I did when I first went to college.

It hasn't been until this past year when people have wanted to contact me. I guess that's what 10+ years does to people! I've heard from a few (Finny and Jaime found me again that way and now Bobbi!), I've hoped to hear from others (Sommer, Tiny Tina, Julie B from Stout) and I've also found information on those I was just curious about.

I've had a gold membership for like 6 months when our 10 year class reunion should have brought some attention to it... and now I've got a 7 day freebie trial. My question is, why do we have to pay for this??? I can see having a user name and password... but why should we pay? I don't pay for gmail, blogger, msn groups, why should I pay for this site that doesn't give me all the specifics that I want? There has got to be another site where people can post information about themselves for free and be able to get all the information served to them on a platter without having to pay to see peoples responses and such. Anyone know of something?

Sure I know that MySpace is a big deal but not a ton of my classmates have started pages. Now yes, I've started my own MySpace page... my sister made me do it! :) So if people wanted to find me there they could.

But there's got to be something like Classmates that is free that I'm just not finding....

Turning 90?

I don’t think I will ever turn 90. I can’t see it happening… but… I do know someone who is turning 90 this week. My Grandma B.

(Her Grandkids... Left to right: TJT, JB, Grandma, MB, PJM, and me)

She and my Grandpa lived in the town where I grew up on the lake. They had two houses there, but I really only remember the 2nd house. I recall these mirrors that went from ceiling to floor in the living room, and a built in cabinet in the hallway where all the old toys were that my sisters had played with, and probably even my dad and uncle. I remember using their paddle boat on the lake and picking off the layers of the birch trees in their backyard. And yes, these are the Grandparents with the Santa wrapping paper.

They moved to Florida when I was in 4th grade I think. I could be totally wrong about that date… but anyways… They moved into this old folk’s community. I remember being there and wanting to go in their outdoor pool. Mind you I was about 10 and was coming from Wisconsin to Florida in the winter… of course I would go swimming in the outdoor pool! But Grandma said it was too cold to go swimming outside. Instead I rode a bike that was either theirs or a neighbor's all around their village. I didn’t have a clue where I was and was sure to watch where I turned so I was sure to make it back to their house. Especially since I knew them as Grandma and Grandpa… there were tons of Grandma and Grandpa’s in the community!

My Grandma moved back up to Wisconsin after a ton of hurricane’s hit Florida… she’s living in an old folk’s apartment complex and has the heat up to 90 degrees! I hope I’m exaggerating, but I’m not sure since I was pretty lightheaded while I was in there due to the heat!

When I visit next I’ll be sure to take her out for a “cold, cold beer”! A true Wisconsinite!

Where oh where I have I been?

Well in blogland it seems like I haven't posted forever. Nuff said.

Last Friday Jerome had off from work and met me for lunch at work. It was nice to have lunch with him and my co-worker Linda. We chatted and he was on his way after that to cash a check for me and run to St. Paul to see JST.

I stayed at work and had a happy hour to go to afterwards. Oh did $h!# hit the fan there. I won't and can't go into details... let's just say people were voicing their opinions regarding their former employers. Oye!

After that I went and picked up my nifty new phone. It's pretty awesome.... so awesome in fact that once Jerome saw it he wanted to trade his in for mine. Copy cat!

Saturday we woke up and went for breakfast at the bagel joint right by the Sprint store. After breakfast we headed over to the store to exchange Jerome's phone for the one that I got the previous day. The little stinker got his mail in rebate processed in the store because he was trading his new phone in for a different one... I on the other hand will have to wait 4-6 weeks for mine to process. The nerve.

We headed home and decided that we needed to get some boards for under our bed... there were three slats under our bed...but it didn't seem sturdy enough to me. We measured everything and got some 2x4s. While we were on our way into Home Depot I called Lisa asking what she and Rod were up to... they were at an auction... Jerome and I weren't going to be long in Home Depot and said we would shoot over there since we were bored.

Lisa called back as we were leaving letting me know that the auction was actually over... but we ended up going to their house to hang out instead. The four of us played a game of spades... Jerome and I lost the first round. We decided we were hungry and headed to Friday's for some dinner.

We hung out in the bar for a bit until we were seated. There were a few exciting moments - the bible championship team was there taking up about 10 tables, us scarfing down appetizers in a record time, and a close call with flying hair. We wrapped up and quickly headed out of the restaurant as we were stuffed and overheated.

We headed back to Lisa and Rod's for round two of Spades... which... I and Jerome won... and it was a very close game... of course we had to play a tie breaker. We were at a point where we were tied and called it quits. Jerome has seen how competitive my family gets regarding card games... we learned it from my mom... what can I say?!?!!? He knew if we lost the tie breaker he would have a not so happy wife.... needless to say we packed up and went home.

Sunday we didn't do much... in fact I took about a four hour long nap after breakfast just to get up and eat lunch... just to watch Desperate Housewives and head back to bed!

Monday I was back at work... Jerome had President's Day off due to working for the bank. Ughhh. I really hate to get up with him still in bed asleep... I don't know how he does it every day!

He didn't meet up with me for lunch, but when I got home dinner was made, nice music was playing and the dishes were done. Awwww :) We then went to my all time favorite.... Target! Yup... he went with, didn't complain the whole time about being there, and even pushed the cart the whole time. (THANKS Sweetie!) It was a nice surprise. We came home and worked on bills (stupid Direct TV has been charging us over for the past two months - or so we thought - our "introductory price" is over and now have to pay the real price or change plans.... ummm we will change plans of course (no more 87 channels of sports - sorry guys!)) and then headed to bed.

Today we both went to work... but of course Jerome didn't make a full work day yet this week! He was off to the dentist in the afternoon for a teeth cleaning. What a work week!

I headed to another happy hour, jeeze I sound like a lush! This time though it was at Friday's with a different department that I have a few friends in. We hung out... I ordered dinner to go for Jerome and I. Once it arrived I was outta there and headed home.

So far, I've tried to fix the freakin header for this here blog... still isn't right, ate dinner, read a new Star mag that came in the mail (all about Anna Nicole Smith mind you), closed a Pampered Chef show, talked on the phone to an old co-worker about the Friday happy hour and wrote this really long post.

Now that you're caught up, what have you been up to?

New Kids on the Block

A ways back I was asked who my favorite band was growing up. Well... I will admit it... and will stay true to the answer.
New Kids on the Block or NKOTB. I could go on and on and on about them. Back in the day that was all I could talk about.

Some of you may remember them as these guys:

I recall this here tv appearance and remember dancing infront of the family tv to it trying to get down the dance moves with Trisha:

And then there is this here video:

And this one which was from their last album... and also at the point when I was finally able to go to a NKOTB concert, and yes, my mom was with me!

Oh the memories!!!! Gosh I love YouTube!
